Save Your Appetite for Taste of the Bayou 2015!

Are you a fan of fine, fresh, southern seafood? Then get set for 27th annual Taste of the Bayou - held September 26th, 2015 in Irvington, AL. This popular, annual seafood contest sees cooking teams competing for the coveted title using only fresh Bayou La Batre seafood as their base - and your taste buds get to play judge! You may be familiar with the town of Bayou La Batre for a number of pop-culture reasons: it was featured in both the book and film of "Forrest Gump;" it played initial harbor for the Black Pearl galleon, seen in Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series; and the Bayou La Batre's seafood industry served as centerpiece for the History channel's popular "Big Shrimpin'" documentary series. But Bayou La Batre's real claim to fame is tied more closely to this latter reference than any other - and that's because Bayou La Batre is a historical Gulf Coast fishing village famous for its local fishing/shrimping fleet and seafood-processing. So much fresh seafood comes through Bayou La Batre that it's known as the Seafood Capital of Alabama. Taste of the Bayou capitalizes on this reputation with a seafood cooking competition and tasting event designed to bring out the best local chefs' best fresh, local seafood dishes. Taste of the Bayou is the premiere Southern seafood tasting event, featuring more than thirty booths of superior Southern-style seafood specialties prepared by professional chefs of the region. You'll taste appetizers, main and side-dishes, desserts and more - everything from pedigreed, home-style, family recipes handed down through the generations to gourmet-style, restaurant quality dishes, served at only the finest eating establishments - and all created using seafood caught from Bayou La Batre's ever-giving waters. Chefs will compete at Taste of the Bayou in two divisions: General Seafood Dishes and Gumbo. General Seafood Dishes consist of things like marinated crab claws, boiled shrimp, bisques, pasta dishes, and jambalayas. Competitors in the General Seafood Dishes category are further separated into two sub-divisions: Restaurant and Non-Restaurant chefs. Of course, the best reason to attend Taste of the Bayou is that you get to be the judge! And how does one judge food? Why, by TASTING it, of course! Your Taste of the Bayou general admission ticket will get you a sample of everything at the event - from fried seafood to gumbo to delectable desserts. Your tongue will think it has died and gone to heaven. Don't miss it!
