The Dauphin Island Regatta, known as the largest single-day point-to-point race in the United States, will see hundreds of boats and over a thousand crew members in Mobile Bay April 23rd and 24th, 2016.
A two-day event featuring competitive sailing on Mobile Bay, the Dauphin Island Regatta is not just for sailors alone. Along with the excitement of the race in the bay, Dauphin Island itself hosts an diverse array of festivities all weekend long with private and public celebrations, live entertainment, food and drinks, art exhibits, and much more.
Typically, Dauphin Island Regatta competitors start off from the Mobile Yacht Club, near the entrance to the Dog River. The actual race usually begins in the middle of Mobile Bay and finishes at Dauphin Island. A return race on Sunday usually concludes the regatta. A warm-up race held the Sunday before the Dauphin Island Regatta (April 16th) proper, kicks things off.
Spectators are encouraged to track the race using
RaceQs, an online app for your mobile device. Various venues will be hosting racer-chasing events around the island, including the Mobile Yacht Club, which will have tents, food trucks, hard and soft drinks, and restroom facilities.
